Are you starting to shop for school supplies? If so, why not snag an extra notebook, pencil
or ruler to send to the troops to give to the children? Did you just clean out your desk drawer
or change your office location and have some extra pencils and pens you don’t know what
to do with? These items are all priceless to the children of Afghanistan.
Did you know that 50% of the population in Afghanistan is children? With teaching being
near and dear to our member’s hearts, it’s a natural fit for LEA members to be collecting
school supplies for the children of Afghanistan. Our members, including LEA President
Jenni Absalon have family and friends protecting our basic rights of receiving a great
education. Jenni’s son, LT Jacob Absalon recently sent an e-mail stating the need for
some items. On the top of his list was “LOTS of school supplies for the kids.” If you have a
family member serving in Afghanistan or Iraq please let us know their name and if you
would like anything sent to them specifically.
In addition to the school supplies, LEA will also be collecting other items for the deployed
American service members. A list of some of the items that have proven popular or useful
with the troops is listed below. We will also be collecting old cell phones to send in to
exchange for phone cards for soldiers. Click on the following link to read more information

Donations may be dropped off at the LEA Office, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Cash donations to help with postage and to buy additional items may also be sent to the
LEA Office, 4920 Normal Blvd, Lincoln, NE 68506.

- Drawings and Letters from kids, cards and letters from anyone
- LOTS of school supplies for the kids (crayons may melt)
- Dr. Scholls Foot Pads (off brand are good too)
- Foot Powder
- Mach 3 Razors (or any kind)
- Shaving lotion (not cans)
- Baby wipes
- Food Items... Nothing that contains pork, so check fruit snacks etc. Granola Bars,
Beef Jerky, Fruit Rollups, Tootsie Pops, Starburst Candies, Kool Aid, Powdered
Gatorade, Pop Tarts, Campbell Soup Bowls, Canned Cheese, Crackers, any hard
candy. - Entertainment & Games... DVD’s, Magazines, Paper Back Novels, Nerf Balls, Card
Games, Dominoes, Travel Games. - Health & Beauty...Soap, Shampoo, Conditioner, Hand Sanitizer, Lotion, Baby
Powder, Foot Powder, Razors, Shaving Cream, Feminine Hygiene Products.
